Holy moley, Bon Iver got alot of love this year! And a bunch of good artists got love too. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!?!?!?

"Holocene" got nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, while Bon Iver is nominated for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Album.

Mumford and Sons got 2 nominations for "The Cave"

Kanye leads the pack with 7 nominations!

Skrillex is there for Best New Artist too haha

If I'm Bon Iver and I see that I got nominated next to Skrillex, I would pretty much just say 'fuck this shit' and not even show up.
Katy Perry got nominated too...she releases a single for that fucking record every 3-4 months. We're up to 6 or 7 singles.
Mumford's album is old too...wtf? And they performed with Bob Dylan on the show last year with the Avett Bros

The Mumford and Sons single got nominated, not the album itself... though I could have sworn it came out in like April 2010.



You can hate on the grammys all you want, but I think its good that these underappreciated bands (that I like heh) get nominated since it means they'll get increased record sales and attention (from a population that is often neglectful of alot of good stuff) that they rightfully deserve.


Skrillex is good only when you are drunk, in Vegas and realize how cool the wobbly bass feels on gigantic speakers. I like that "First of the Year (Equinox)" song alot.
Still LOL at the fact that he's a best new artist. Guess they had to pick a representative from the massive growth of the electronic/house music genre. "Save the World Tonight" from Swedish House Mafia got nominated for best dance track too, and its pretty good as well.

The Grammys do a really lame job of coming up with who gets nominated.
They just go by who sells the most shit for the other bullshit categories they come up with for 'Best Metal', 'Best Rock', or 'Best Alternative'

I agree. I hate the Grammy's but I would love to see Justin and crew get the love. They puts so much effort and passion into writing such glorious music.

And now we're probably gonna get an epic version of "Holocene" at the Grammy awards, which is very possible considering how great his performance was on Jimmy Fallon (though he was a bit off key at first and probably needs to layer on the vocals somehow). Hopefully it's reminiscent of the one Arcade Fire and David Bowie gave at some Fashion Awards show for CBS years ago, which is still one of the best TV performances I've ever seen...




... and not like the whatever performance of "Month of May" that they gave at the Grammys last year, where they tried to be hardrockers all of a sudden.

We'll probably get a cool performance of "All of the Lights" from Kanye too, featuring all 403503503 guest stars on the song (where we can finally figure out who sings what).

Some people think the Grammys became lame at some point. This is a common mistake. The Grammys were lame in the 60's when Barbara Streisand was winning awards over The Beatles.

Not saying Rolling Stone is perfect or anything, but I think only 1 of their top 10 albums of all time ever won the Grammy for Best Album. Zeppelin never won it. The Beatles only won it once. Pet Sounds wasn't even nominated.

If you wanted to show someone a history of film, looking at the Academy Awards would at least give you a decent picture of how things progressed and who some of the greatest filmmakers were. The Grammys would just influence someone to stop listening to music.

Having said all this, Arcade Fire winning it last year was truly something unprecedented. The Grammys never select a winner until a decade after that brand of music is popular. So maybe there's been a change.

I think you're concentrating too much on the winners aspect. Just being nominated in a super crowded field of thousands of different albums in dozens of different genres is something to be proud of. Ya the actual winners are usually really lame, but like I said its the recognition that matters the most, since they aren't supposed to award nominations solely based on chart position (though this often turns out to be the case... long at Album of the Year this year haha). Plus, we can see some awesome performances where there's something for pretty much everyone and thats always cool.

Of course, I am a huge jynx so watch Taylor Swift and whoever the hell the Band Perry is sing along on Holocene, complete with additional bridge brought to you by Kanye.

As for the academy awards, there are only so many movies that get released a year because that industry is much more inclusive, so the actual winners are much more legitimate.

Pretty much.
Although I think the one major thing the Oscars fuck up on is that they don't have an award for Best Comedy.
They neglect that genre completely and it's very difficult to get nominated for how fucking hard doing comedy is (Borat, Superbad, etc)
It almost has to be an indie comedy/dramedy to get nominated.
