stars Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale), Lawrence Fishburne, + Hugh Dancy

worth watching the trailer

but

as soon as I heard about this project about a year or so ago I cringed

I just don't like network dramas and I would be more excited about it if it were put on something like FX, AMC, or HBO.

getting great reviews

watched the pilot episode and it is pretty awesome

'not another serial killer drama'

I fucking hate the Following.

Bates Motel is subpar: it had a good trailer and what they tried to do...but it's lame. But I dig the setting and I guess I enjoy it for that. But I don't have much real hope for where it is going and what I wanted from it.

Hannibal was by far the best.

Pilot directed by David Slade (Awake; Breaking Bad)

super impressive.

It's placed on Thursday nights at 10

tough night for it to succeed.

Fuller: I've been wanting to do the [Shining] bathroom [set] forever. I tried to do it several times on Pushing Daisiesbut we always had budget restrictions and I wanted it to be exactly like that bathroom. Every show I've done I wanted to build a bathroom that looked like that space. (Hannibal, S01E01)

Patton Oswalt: Was ready to hate HANNIBAL and I loved it. Deft touches of Kubrick, Texas Chainsaw, & Cronenberg. I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR A NEW SHOW.

This show is awesome.  I was really impressed.

I can't really see how they're going to handle this episode-to-episode, but this first hour was excellent.  The style and aesthetics is awesome.  (It actually reminds me a lot of the Robert Downy Jr. Sherlock Holmes films, very much, but I really had fun with those, and it's really well done).  The guy they got for Hannibal is really good.

^I've only really seen him in CASINO ROYALE as the main villain in that one.

seemed overqualified for this, which is something I like to see in a show and perked up my interests going in.

^I've only seen PUSHING DAISIES

didn't see his other shit (Wonderfalls; Dead Like Me; Star Trek Voyager)

but yeah, the tone of PUSHING DAISIES was a happy, playful way...kind of a dark comedy in some weird playland.

this is full-on fucked up and embracing the darkness, in a good way.

This is going to stink.

I was wrong. This was a surprisingly solid show. I'm looking forward to the second episode tonight. I especially liked the performances. It's nice to see a show with two main characters (one being a very famous character) where the supporting players are written just as well and given a lot to work with.

Yeah, I never would've given a chance either (or rather, didn't) until I saw the good reviews and had a quiet Wednesday night to push through.  I'm excited to see where it goes from here.

Yeah, this show is amazing. It's been a long time since I've been this affected and just like, super compelled by something on the network. It does an outstanding job of marrying beauty and grotesque. I'm eager to see how they approach the next few episodes. So far, so good!

This show is really good so far.  Mads Mikkelsen is completely awesome in this, really digging his version of Lecter.

And I must say, I'm pretty desensitized at this point from most TV/Movie violence and gore, but that whole thing with the fungal growths all over those people was almost too much for me.  So any show that can do that gross me out at this point has my full attention.  Well done.

Well, turns out I was pretty wrong about the show being neutered because it was on regular TV... Pretty awesome start for this show.

Only problem I have with this show is Dancy overacts in my opinion, not much but enough that it bothers me. I'm sure he will get better, or I will stop caring, like with Jax' terrible American Accent in Sons of Anarchy.

Bryan Fuller Asked NBC To Pull Next Week's "Hannibal" Because Real Life Is Terrifying Enough

Apparently it was about a women that "brainwashes children to kill other children."  With Sandy Hook and the Boston Bombings, it might not be a terrible idea although I'd rather see the episode than not.

Molly Shannon plays the women and I think that'd be really interesting to see.  I can't think if I've seen her in anything more serious than that annoying (but I'll admit, touching) guest role as the EMT on Scrubs.  I'd love to see how she fits in within the atmosphere of Hannibal though.  Scott Thompson was in the first or second episode (from Kids in the Hall and he was awesome, bringing a touch of humor to a show that generally uses very little, so a touch here and there goes a long way).

The episode in its stead has people with their backs ripped out and carved into the shape wings and then hung up to look like angels.  So, honestly, the pulling seems a little arbitrary, but I guess it's not children killing children.

I downloaded the first few episodes of this. Look forward to checking it out. Have only heard good things so far. Is there an overall arc or is just like a 'killer of the week' kind of thing? Cause that would turn me off big time.

It's a little bit of both. The first episode's case has been running through the first three episodes but episode 2 also had a killer of the week. But it's pretty cool how they handle it.  (Like Buffy, sort of).

The episodes really breathe though, which I think is really cool.  So although there has only been one, the killer of the week episode had a wonderful air about it and felt like a normal part of their life (instead of it being a stand-alone episode of their life.

yeah, got all caught up with the episodes today.

Still liking this show a lot.

Sucks that they're not airing that deleted episode, but I'll look forward to it when it comes out.

Definitely agree with Hugh Dancy is a little too intense with the overacting but hopefully it gets better.

Being asked to play a guy who may be close to Asperger's and can envision being a killer and have empathy with them does kind of allow for that type of acting.

http://www.avclub.com/articles/that-pulled-episode-of-hannibal-is-now-a-series-on,96958/

That pulled episode is going to be aired online (hulu, i think) as a web series, or something in short installments since, apparently, part of the episode is important to the main plot.

This is pretty annoying.  I wish they'd just show the whole episode and people that feel squeamish about things could just leave it up to theirselves whether or not they're in the mood to watch a show about a cannibal investigating murders.

Oh well, I guess I'll watch the first part now (it's available through that link).

Yeah, just show the fucking episode!  Jesus Christ, if people don't want to watch it, they won't watch it.

I feel like the target audience for this show would probably not give a shit if the plot involves killing kids or whatever they were worried about.  This isn't like an episode of Law and Order that deals with a similar act of terrorism or something.  It's a goddamn show about a cannibal serial killer with extremely graphic violence and horror.

It just reminds me of something the Rev. Lovejoy's wife on the Simpsons would say: "Won't somebody think of the children!"

yeah, watched the pulled episode.

I watched most of the 1-on-1 parts that they leaked as webisodes while leaving out all the main plots of the pulled episode.

really lame that they pulled it.

the last episode was pretty awesome and set-up for the rest of the season.
