70s noir show of a soldier coming back from Vietnam and forced into becoming a hitman
Solid noir show

From a writer of 'Rectify'...heard it described as 'Rectify' meets 'Banshee'...or 'Rectify' with a hitman, which it desperately needed.
For the record: I hated 'Rectify'. Too slow-moving, a slog, just a downer. Watched the 1st season, checked out.

You got Tom Hardy's doppelganger. Marlo from 'the Wire'; Dewey from 'Justified'; Peter Mullan ('Top of the Lake') is in the show. Rock solid cast.

Not sure if I would totally recommend this show: it's not exactly fun ('Banshee' 100% was) and the tone makes it that way. But it does feel like a classic 70s movie, has a definite setting/feel. Well-directed. But it's worth a shot for people into crime.

Pilot episode is pretty excellent and 80 minutes.

BUMP

Liked the season, even if it's a SLOW burn, makes you feel kind of miserable in ways...it's well-directed.  And there's action sequences for sure and violence. It's a throwback show. Takes place in 1972, and you genuinely feel like you are there.
....And it all leads up to the final episode (8th episode) that runs for 80-85 minutes...and it's one of the best episodes of the year, certainly one of the best-directed episodes and insane action sequences. It's perfection the way it all comes together. It's dark as fuck with the Vietnam sequence that is teased from the beginning and it delivers and then some with twists.
